I purchased a number of different fruit items from the Harbour View location - Since I had not refilled my fruit bowl in three weeks. So I placed the fruit in the fruit bowl I leave on the counter as always and the next day I noticed what I thought was a gnat flying around and killed it without even thinking. Until later that evening when I went to grab a plum I purchased and it literally squeezed between my fingers and a bunch of bugs started flying away. I realized instantly they were fruit flies and as most people are aware they are a pain in the rear to get ride of in the end - I instantly threw all the fruit away and took it outside to the trash can! Scrubbing the dish and counters with bleach wipes and warm soapy water.
I have loved this store and the Harris Teeter chain more importantly for years. An would of typically given them 5 stars hands down - Until my last visit to this specific location to purchase fruit. Mind you I've not had this problem from the Newport News store ever!! This is also why I rated it three stars and not lower.
I just want to say an extra special THANK YOU TO Ass't Manager Michael at your store at Harbor view, Suffolk VA! I called from Connecticut and asked to have a basket made up for my daughter in-laws birthday and although they were in the throws of "double day" he went and made up a special basket for her! I couldn't have done a better job if I was there to do it myself! Kudos to you for having such an exemplary employee! Thank you so much for making a mother in-law miles away thrilled with her gift! P.S. My daughter in-law LOVED it!
Staff are extremely polite and helpful. Prices aren't bad especially when you shop the sale items. Would recommend the fresh produce.
After almost two and a half close to three weeks later - I'm still trying to get ride of them in the house. Even after trying the apple cider vinegar trick across the counters in jars. They are a major pain to get ride of once and for all!! Christ my dog even nips at them as they fly through the air!! Most of all they can live for typically up to 18 days or more.

Again I love the store chain and quality of other items they provide. But I won't be buying fruit from this specific location again - Unless I want to feel like I'm on a beach in the Caribbean swatting flies away while laying tanning!!
Some of the best customer service I've ever experienced. Great selection and prices. Love the express lane.
I'm praying I can get rid of them entirely before the party I'm hosting for the company I own and clients attending.
As a result I won't be buying fruit from here again.
